How to track visits to multiple web sites

If you wish to use a single copy of AXS to track visits to multiple web sites, you must do the following two things:

  1. First, you must use the full URL to ax.pl in your tracking links.

    For example, if your default tracking code is:

    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    	document.write('<img src="/axs/ax.pl?mode=img&ref=');
    	document.write( escape( document.referrer ) );
    	document.write('" height="1" width="1" style="display:none" alt="" />');
    // -->
    </script><noscript>
    	<img src="/axs/ax.pl?mode=img" height="1" width="1" style="display:none" alt="" />
    </noscript>

    and AXS is at http://www.yoursite.tld/axs/ax.pl, you need to edit the tracking code so it reads:

    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    	document.write('<img src="http://www.yoursite.tld/axs/ax.pl?mode=img&ref=');
    	document.write( escape( document.referrer ) );
    	document.write('" height="1" width="1" style="display:none" alt="" />');
    // -->
    </script><noscript>
    	<img src="http://www.yoursite.tld/axs/ax.pl?mode=img" height="1" width="1" style="display:none" alt="" />
    </noscript>

    This step is necessary so that all the tracking codes on the different web sites point back to your single copy of AXS.

  2. Second, you need to tell ax-admin about the different web sites that are being tracked. To do this, go to your ax-admin file, choose the "Customize" link at the top, and scroll down to the input labeled "Local web pages will be any web pages which contain this substring in their URL".

    By default, that input should contain the hostname of the site that is hosting AXS.

    You need to enter a pipe-separate list of the hostnames of the sites that are being tracked by AXS. The list should then be enclosed in parentheses.

    For example, to track visits to xav.com, nickname.net, and io.com, enter:

    (xav.com|nickname.net|io.com)
