How to fix error "Undefined subroutine &main::Trim called"
This article describes how to fix the following error:
Perl Error: Undefined subroutine &main::Trim called at search/searchmods/common.pl line 8077, <ReadHandle2> chunk 5.
The exact file name and line number may vary.
All reports of this bug have involved FDSE running under Apache mod_perl. (If you are not running Apache mod_perl, then this fix may not apply to you, and you should file a separate bug report.)
The fix is to upgrade to the latest stable version of the product.
The problem relates to Perl package namespaces under mod_perl. Since version 2.0.0.0036 (released 22 Feb 2001), FDSE has stopped using Perl packages. This error has not been reported on these newer versions.
Background: the underlying problem is that the FDSE search engine has been loaded into a namespace other than "main", and yet some of FDSE's internal packages assume that the main search engine code is in "main". The internal packages must use explicit names to call up to subroutines in the main code base, and they are guessing the explicit name incorrectly.
